Content introduction
``Legend of Water Flames'' is a play written by poet Shin Ooka, based on ancient folklore, with the theme of ``death and rebirth.'' The story is about two men fighting over a maiden, and the maiden commits suicide out of pain. Based on the script, Maki Ishii created a world of mysterious sounds using transverse flutes and percussion instruments. Eio Kanze participated in the reading. His powerful speaking style is also worth listening to.

This work was commissioned by Maki Ishii by Michiko Akao, who is known worldwide as a performer of the horizontal flute. This recording represents Akao's wish to record the wishes of the late Ishii.
