Electro-Harmonix ABOUT electro-harmonix
Electro-Harmonix was founded by Mike Matthews in October 1968. The first product was a fuzz pedal called "Axis Fuzztone". Later, the linear power booster "LPB-1", which could be called the original booster, was created with Bob Meyer, an engineer at Bell Labs, a research institute that has won numerous Nobel Prizes in physics. It was a huge hit even though it was only available by mail order, and the Electro-Harmonix brand became widely known. Then, in the latter half of 1969, they released the famous "Big Muff", and in the 1970s, they released a series of models that are still popular today, such as the Small Stone and Memory Man, which recorded strong sales. Although the company was doing well in the 1970s, it faced problems with labor unions and parts supplies in the 1980s, and went bankrupt in 1984. So Mike Matthews went to the former Soviet Union and founded a new company, "New Sensor Corp.," in 1988. Under the "Sovtec" brand, the company produced a series of products such as vacuum tubes, effects, and amplifiers, and made a comeback as a comprehensive music equipment manufacturer. In 1991, the company regained the Electro-Harmonix trademark that it had once lost, and in 2002 returned to its base in New York, where it continues to deliver unique effects to many players around the world.
