The traditional arare pattern of Nambu iron kettles
Nanbu iron kettles are a traditional craft of Iwate with a history of 900 years. They have a simple and warm texture, and the more you use them, the more their texture improves. Boiled water is rich in divalent iron, which is easily absorbed by the body, and is effective for iron supplementation. Before and after first use, rinse the inside of the iron kettle lightly, then fill it with water up to 80% and boil it for about 15 minutes. (At first, the water may be cloudy due to metal, so repeat this process about 3 times and use it when the boiled water becomes colorless.) If you have not used the kettle for a long time and have put it away, please do the same procedure when you first use it. After use, do not leave the hot water remaining inside the iron kettle as it is, but be sure to transfer it to a pot or other container, empty it, and dry it before putting it away. If the water becomes cloudy due to rust, first rinse it lightly and fill it with water up to 80%, wrap about a teaspoon of green tea in a cloth, and boil it in water for about 15 to 20 minutes, being careful not to boil it empty. This is a method of preventing metal odours by using the chemical reaction between tannin and iron. Repeating this process 2-3 times will be even more effective. Afterwards, rinse lightly and boil water 1-2 times before using.
This is our original Nambu iron kettle. It is decorated with a raspberry pattern. The inside is lacquered. The lacquer will come off as you use it, but by that time the iron kettle will be rust-resistant due to the minerals and calcium in the tap water. You can easily get the iron that is often lacking, which helps prevent anemia. The water boiled in the iron kettle removes the chlorine, so ordinary tap water turns into a mellow taste. You can also make delicious drinks such as Japanese tea and coffee. Although it can be used over an open flame, the handle will get very hot. Please use it with great care to avoid burns. We cannot be held responsible. Iron products are unbreakable, so they are also recommended as gifts for celebrations, Father's Day, and Mother's Day.
