explanation
Introducing a new product inspired by the first speed timer model, which features an original dial color.
The iconic bright yellow dial color and aluminum bezel with red/blue color-coded tachymeter scale are inspired by the original model from 1969. Original model details:
On November 16, 1973, NASA astronaut William Pogue put it in his spacesuit pants pocket as he boarded the Saturn rocket.
The watch is part of the Seiko ``Five Sports Speed Timer'' series, Caliber 6139, the world's first self-winding chronograph that Seiko began selling in the spring of 1969. Mr. Pogue bought it for $71 at an Air Force base store.
Seiko watches were not certified by NASA.
However, when flight training began, official watches had not yet been issued to astronauts, so Mr. Pogue wore a Seiko during flight training.
``I found this Seiko to be very useful when measuring the combustion time of rocket engines using the rotating bezel.'' Mr. Pogue thought, ``I would like to use the Seiko in space,'' and decided to use it as a personal item to accompany the mission.
During his actual mission inside the space station, he wore a NASA-approved watch on his right wrist and a Seiko watch on his left wrist.
Although there were no specifications to withstand the space environment, it seems that it was able to accurately tell the time even in zero gravity.
The watch Mr. Pogue chose has a bright yellow dial, and its vivid design does not look old even after nearly 50 years since its release, and it still shines with charm.
Mr. Pogue orbited the Earth 1,214 times on this Skylab 4 mission, successfully completing the mission of the space station for 84 days, the longest stay in space at the time.
Pogue wore the watch long after he hung up his space suit, but in 2008 he decided to put it up for auction. The entire amount of the winning bid was donated to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.
